How to winter: Baati edition

We are deep into the snow season, the time of the year synonymous with darkness and sub-zero temperatures. It can be difficult for some of us to adjust to the loneliness this time of year brings especially after a global pandemic that shifted society to be more isolated. We bring forth a little how-to-baati to transform your winter experience, to make it a more comfortable and a more enjoyable period.

Here are 3 baati related tips for a better winter:

1. Designate your baati wearing time:

Baati wearers, if you are struggling with productivity at home, whether it’s general housework, studying, or working from home, this is for you. Baatis are cosy loungewear/sleepwear, and that means your brain might associate wearing one with relaxation and rest, and as a result, this might impede your productivity. We suggest two ways to treat this:

  • Change out of your baati and into a new outfit altogether to emulate the type of work you want to get done. We all know how baatis are versatile, but this is for a mental shift to put you into work mode. And when your tasks for the day are done, change back into a fresh new baati to tune into your relaxation mode. This might be a piece of tough advice to follow, even for us at Baati UK! Imagine being at home and not in a baati. But it might be for the best, so give it a go.

  • For baati lovers out there, who can’t be asked to change into something other than a baati, why not differentiate your baatis; cleaning baatis, pyjama baatis, outfit baatis where your baati is your statement piece (more on that below), etc. The act of changing out of one baati to another could be your work to relaxation switch instead.

Treat yourself to wearing a special baati, or baatis in general, when you want to wind down at the end of the day and when you want to relax. If you work from home, this could look like dressing out of your baati in the morning ready for your new work day and dressing into a new fresh baati once you wrap up your work day, and the same goes for those who spend their day outside.

2. Layer up right.

Unless you live in an extremely well insulated house, you are probably going to layer up your baati in the winter. Here are two ways of keeping warm whilst wearing a baati.

  • Wear a long-sleeved top under your baati: Since the baatis are short-sleeved, having your arms exposed is a can be a bit chilly. Wearing a long-sleeved top under your baati will not only keep you warm, but it is a practical outfit. This style is convenient when doing activities that can be messy. An older baati can be used as an apron or layer over your outfit when painting or taking care of young children. If the baati gets dirty, simply remove it to reveal your clean clothes beneath. If your baati has a pretty design, it is the perfect way to show it off. The baati being the top layer of your outfit also acts as a sort of windbreaker, keeping you warm even more.

  • Wear a cardigan/jumper/hoodie on top of your baati: A more common way of layering up is to wear a cardigan/jumper over your baati. You can wear a bulkier top such as a knitted jumper making it a perfect choice if you are feeling really cold. Wear woolly socks and leggings to not only protect you from that chilly air but to also complete your cosy winter baati look.

One might associate wearing baatis with summer, feeling cooler in one when the weather gets warmer. But baatis are great for winter too and even better when you layer up right!

3. Be fashionable

Some baatis have very bold and bright prints. Let those designs shine! Use those bright colours and prints to replace the dark and the gloom of winter. We all know how some baati prints can be wild and bright, be bold and wear them! Dress up in them and make it a statement piece!
Otherwise, pair up your plain baatis with bright jumpers. Experiment with your baati to express your style. This tip is more to uplift your mood as opposed to keeping you physically warm and it is just as important.
